Host Family Program
Finding the right school is only
half of the equation for the foreign student. Finding the right living
conditions is just as important in order to ensure success in high school and a
positive learning experience. At Chinese American Schools, we realize the
importance of having the right living conditions and the right people available
to provide love, support, and care. We are ready to not only provide a “home
away from home,” but a “family away from family.”
To ensure that students are well cared for, we require all students to live with an approved guardian who will take personal responsibility for that child’s welfare, academics, and matter. Students and their families are free to make their own arrangements if they have relatives or close family friends who are willing to serve as guardians. If there is no such individual, there are two options: |
HOST FAMILIES
Families who have applied to serve as a host family and will be screened by our student services department to insure the student will have a loving and supportive family environment. Host families receive training on how to work with international students. Students interested in a host family arrangement will fill out an application and to be reviewed by the ISS staff.
ISS staff will assist in making the appropriate selection. Click here for an (pdf) brochure.
HOUSE FAMILIES
The International Student Services department is obtaining homes where 6-10 students of the same gender can live comfortably together along with a house parent. Students will live two per room and enjoy the benefit of living with other students while being supervised by a carefully screened and selected house parent. Students will learn to live together and cooperate with one another as they share some of the household duties as well as help one another with schoolwork.
If you are interested in being a Host Family, please feel free to contact us.
SEACREST HOME
CAS has invested in a new "transitional home" for international students. Located within a short distance of the San Leandro campus, our Seacrest Home serves the immediate needs of students. Hosted by Mrs. Mary Helen Esposito, we are able to host five additional students (female) there. Click here for some pictures of our Seacrest Home.
